James O. Wilson has been a member of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1989 and is currently the assistant regional director of the Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional Office. He has a BS degree in zoology from Howard University and an MS degree in cellular and molecular biology from University of Michigan. Wilson has served on the Executive Board of the Patent and Trademark Office Society and continues to be an active member of the organization. As a primary examiner, Wilson served as a chemical representative of the Patent Office Professional Association. He became a supervisory patent examiner in 2002, and in 2007 he served as a managerial detailee to the Office of the Commissioner for Patents.
